powder

Today Betsy saw snow for the first time.

In honor of this momentous occasion here are some other photos from today:

I can honestly see myself getting used to this.

02/12/10: snowcountry

Friday evening the Lowcountry turned to the Snowcountry. We only got about three inches at most - but this is the most snow we've seen here in Charleston since 1989, so we were all really excited about it!

Waiting for snow.

It's here!

Nothing says Snowcountry like a palmetto tree covered in the white stuff:

02/11/10: cookie craze

In this house, EVERYONE has a sweet tooth. We didn't have any semi-sweet morsels, so my husband got desperate. White chocolate chip cookies. They tasted just like sugar cookies, but with white chocolate.

So simple, but really pretty darn tasty.

02/10/10: southend brewery

My husband and I went out for a date night on Wednesday. Our church has a monthly philosophical discussion called Talks on Tap and it's usually pretty low-key, but this month they changed date and locale, and it was PACKED, so we didn't stay. However, I did get a cool shot while on the (closed) second story of Southend Brewery, where ToT was being held. I got two cool shots, in fact...

A view out the window...

And a photo of the beerworks.

ben's first solid food

My son is a little tank. He's barely four months old and weighs over sixteen pounds already. He's drinking up to 6 oz. of fluid every two hours. So this evening we put him in the highchair and gave him his first taste of rice cereal.

He LOVED it!

Don't worry little dude, you'll have more for breakfast tomorrow.

gumball tree 2

This time I kept the blue sky but darkened the tree against it, so it looked the way that I saw it when it caught my eye and I thought it would make a great picture. Do you like this one or the black and white better?

02/07/10: gumball tree

This tree is so cool. I edited the shot to show the contrast of the dark orbs against the white branches.

i can mash potato

Once again the camera found its way to the dinner table with Betsy as the subject. Tonight she had mashed potatoes and fried chicken and butter beans for dinner. Here she is greatly enjoying her mashed potatoes:

Saving some for later:

02/05/10: pretty pretty princess

I just couldn't decide which one to post so I posted them all. I got the idea to give the photos a retro look from my friend Amanda. Check out her blog here.

Betsy has recently taken to wearing her headbands (and mine!) proudly atop her head, anywhere she can. She saw her sequin tiara on the table while eating dinner and snatched it up.

02/04/10: a study in motion and color

I had fun with this one. Ben's hands were all over the place. He loves his tummy time mat. There's a musical light-up star overhead and it keeps him VERY occupied.

02/03/10: grown-up sundae

This thing is amazing! My husband and I went out to Kaminsky's, just the two of us, for maybe an hour this past week. We happened in during Happy Hour where ALL martinis are half price. The Grown-Up Sundae is made with Godiva chocolate liqueur, and has a scoop of ice cream in it. I was in love.

The lighting was very low in the restaurant and I didn't want to disturb the other patrons with a flash so the shot isn't very good, but it's the best I've got.

02/02/10: tuesday tea for two

On Tuesday Betsy had a playdate with her friends Sarah and Cate. Here are Betsy and Cate having a tea party:

Cate just had a birthday and is now three.

02/01/10: put on your dancin' shoes

I'm still taking photos every day even though I don't upload every day. Sorry about that. When your internet is down for a week it's hard to get back into the swing.

self portrait: january 2010

On the last day of each month I plan to post a self-portrait. Here's the one from today:

I can't believe it's me. I never thought I'd ever look fairly attractive. I was always the ugly duckling growing up, awkward and trying way too hard to fit in. I followed too many fads. I'm over that now. Maybe that's why I look confident here.

I'm excited to catalog myself monthly and see how much I change in the course of a year - physically, that is.

[For those of you wondering where my last few days' photos have been, I have been taking them but my internet at home has not been working. They are uploaded now and can be found listed chronologically by date in the archives.]

01/30/10: heart is where the home is

This is the house where I grew up. I wanted to include two photos today, one of the house itself, and one of the driveway where my brother Mitchell and I signed our names when we first moved in with our parents over twenty years ago. We haven't lived here in years, but this is always going to be home for us. My dad is in the process of selling it and I understand his reasons behind it and I support his decision - it's all the memories I'll miss. Thankfully, I can carry those with me forever.

01/29/10: baby boy bliss

When Betsy goes to bed, that's when we have our best times with Ben. He gets to feel special, like he's the only baby in the world. And we get to truly enjoy him and all his unique personality traits.

01/28/10

Ben can hold his own bottle now!

01/27/10: lights out

Curse you, AT&T!

1/26/10: diaper genie

I am going to have to retrograde my missing blogs - something is wrong with our home internet so I'm updating the past several days at my dad's house. This is Wednesday's photo:

Ben had just gotten a diaper change and the sight of his baby nightshirt piled atop his head reminded me of a turban.

shoulder peekaboo

Just having some fun family time after dinner this evening. Ben, like his sister, loves the camera.

sunday shots

I couldn't decide on which photo to post; they are both so different so I had to post both.

The first one is cute and fun...

This is my pastor's youngest daughter playing in a set of cubbies in the hallway at church this morning.

The second one is weird and funny.

This is the poor sap who stands on the highway near my house every day in a creepy Statue of Liberty suit for Liberty Tax Services.

Yep.
